A Chinese traveler has called for an investigation after her dog died while being transported in the cargo hold of a Korean Air flight from Guangzhou in southern China to Incheon.
The woman wrote on Instagram on Wednesday that her dog had died while traveling from Guangzhou to the US via Incheon the previous day.
The passenger also said that she waited about two hours after getting off the plane before the dog’s body was returned to her.
The airline said in a statement posted to Instagram on Wednesday that the dog was found dead inside its carrier after Flight KE868 arrived at Incheon Airport from Guangzhou.
The airline added that other pets had been transported on the same flight and showed no signs of health problems.
The woman said she asked Korean Air for surveillance footage and records covering every stage of the dog's journey, including transport, unloading and handover.
The airline, however, said it had explained the circumstances to the owner on the day of the incident and was reviewing her additional requests.
“We will continue to communicate with the customer and provide further information,” the airline said.
